Side activities have several levels, and once they are all completed, you will no longer gain respect points when you play them.

You can start races, mayhem, star in a fight club, be a hitman and many more. This means that if you choose to attack the Ronin, you aren’t locked into their missions and are free to play missions from other gangs at any moment, but there is a twist.īefore you can start a story mission, you must fill your respect bar, by doing side activities, and there are a lot of them to choose from. You have the freedom of choosing which gang you want to attack first, and you can alternate between them at any moment. Everything is customizable from the face, hair, voice, taunts and even the way your character would walk.Īfter a short intro sequence, you will get to do a couple of story missions, and after that, the game will set you loose. Unlike GTA games, you can also choose which difficulty you want to play at Casual, Normal or Hardcore mode, but this only changes the amount of damage that you receive, and the amount of HP that the enemies will have.įrom the moment you start a new game, you would be overwhelmed with the amount of customization available for your character. The best thing about Saints Row 2 is the great customization and freedom it offers. The new gangs are The Brotherhood (Red Gang), Sons of Samedi (Green Gang) and The Ronin (Yellow Gang). Soon enough you learn that your gang is destroyed and that there are now three new gangs controlling the city. Set five years after the events of Saints Row, you wake up from a coma in prison, and after the prison break, you set out to once again control the city of Stillwater. Saints Row 2 is a direct sequel to Saints Row (from 2006), an Xbox 360 exclusive, but fortunately playing the first game is not required to get the grasp of the story, or its characters. Volition decided to add a little bit of comedic tone, but kept the action, making a perfect balance between comedy and action. It’s influence is obvious, but instead of blatantly ripping off the GTA franchise, Volition decided to expand on several concepts. *Note: Reviewed the GOG version, with Gentlemen of the Row modĭeveloped by Volition Games and released in 2009, Saints Row 2 is the best GTA clone ever made. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
